Kína egypártrendszer, társadalmában ellentmondásos módon vegyül a gazdasági liberalizáció, illetve a központi tervutasításos társadalomvezetési gyakorlat. Indiát szokás a legnagyobb demokráciának nevezni, ugyanakkor az is nyilvánvaló, hogy e társadalom nem mindenben felel meg a nyugati demokráciák ismérveinek. Yet India and China represent two fundamentally different systems, both of which are potentially attractive to many countries of the so-called Third World. China is a single-party system, whose society is a contradictory combination of a liberalizing economy and a centrally planned, directive-based leadership. India is often called the “world’s largest democracy,” though it is clear that Indian society does not comply in every respect with Western democratic norms. But both countries will be the key factors in global development in the coming decades.
